New global working group on indigenous rights

NIM has recently initiated the establishment of a working group on indigenous rights as part of our collaboration with GANHRI.

This week, NIM and GANHRI held the first meeting of the network. In total, over 20 institutions from all continents participated. The purpose of the working group is to create a platform where members working on indigenous human rights can share knowledge and experiences. The working group will promote the sharing of information and resources, identify opportunities for capacity building, coordinate joint activities and projects, and participate collectively in international forums and processes, such as the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

NIM hopes this initiative is an important step to highlight indigenous rights in GANHRI’s international work. We look forward to valuable exchanges of experiences with our partners in the future.
